About Us
“The practice of medicine is an art, not a trade; a calling, not a business; a calling in which your heart will be exercised equally with your head.”
Sir William Osler
Students Interested in Internal Medicine (SIIM) is a student-led group at UBC, committed to cultivating curiosity, connection, and professional growth within the field of internal medicine. Our mission is to support medical students at every stage of their education by providing meaningful opportunities for clinical exposure, academic engagement, and mentorship.

Internal medicine is a diverse and ever-evolving specialty, rooted in diagnostic reasoning, patient-centered care, and interdisciplinary collaboration. At SIIM, we embrace these core principles by creating inclusive, student-driven spaces that inspire exploration, foster critical thinking, and build a strong sense of community.

We believe that early exposure and peer support are essential to navigating the challenges of medical school and preparing for residency. Through a range of accessible and engaging initiatives, we aim to welcome students of all backgrounds—whether they’re just beginning to explore internal medicine or already envisioning it as their future.

SIIM is more than just a club, it is a growing network of learners, united by a shared respect for the depth, complexity, and humanity that define internal medicine. Together, we strive to nurture purpose, inspire curiosity, and support one another on the journey to becoming thoughtful, compassionate physicians.

Our core initiatives include: bedside mentorship, journal club, speaker series, CaRMS Night, and the Internal Medicine Clinical Project, a student-developed resource offering concise, evidence-based summaries to support internal medicine learning.
